Westmark unveils new development in south Wales
Property developer, Westmark has launched the first phase of the exclusive riverside apartments within its £25 million development in Newport.
Set in the heart of Newport city centre, Newhaus is a riverside development consisting of 154 one and two bedroom apartments. It forms part of the of the £200 million redevelopment of the Old Town Dock area stretching from George Street to the Southern Distributer Bridge, driven by Newport Unlimited.
Westmark has employed local Welsh contractor Opco to deliver the first phase, employing up to 200 on site. The first of 64 apartments is due to be completed in September and are aimed at first time buyers, investor markets and those thinking of downsizing with three reservations already secured.
The company has experience of working in the Welsh property market, having delivered the Watermark development in Cardiff Bay in April 2008.
Tony McGorrigan, project director for Westmark, said: “We are delighted the first phase of homes at our Newhaus development is on the market, marking the important part our development plays in the wider regeneration of Wales’ youngest city.
“As a residential property developer we are always looking for new opportunities to build in an area where we can see clear economic growth. Whilst recent reports clearly show that Cardiff lacks readily available land for development, Newport clearly has huge potential.
Gareth Beer, chief executive of Newport Unlimited, the company behind the city’s regeneration, said: “During such a difficult economic climate it is encouraging to see developers making progress on projects like Newhaus. The development is an important part of our wider vision for the regeneration of the city, occupying an excellent position alongside the rejuvenated Riverside park and setting a new benchmark for high specification homes in Newport.”
“With a potential pool of 1.6 million customers and staff within an hour’s drive of the city, living and buying property in Newport has a lot of advantages. Newhaus is at the heart of Newport’s renaissance and will transform the area with high quality homes, local shops, restaurants, bars and cafés.”
The site is being marketed by residential property agents, Savills and Nuttal Parker.
As well as its sites in Wales it has developments at a range of locations around the UK and abroad including Poland and Barbados.
